Laundry Day

Sunday, August 15th

Today was not just our last day in Berlin, but our last day in Germany. We enjoyed seven full days here in Berchtesgaden, Munich, Rothenburg, and Berlin.  We've even become pretty good at using our limited German...in fact, now that we're in France, we keep saying 'Danke' instead of 'Merci'!

Today was beautiful, no rain, so we rented bikes. Berlin is a great biking town and we really enjoyed the change of pace. We rode thru a park and then to the German History Museum. It was nice to focus on the history of Germany outside of the WW2 aspect...although it does cover that in depth. I had always wondered how Germany became Germany and this museum fit the bill for that. I've always been a history buff, but I've usually concentrated on American and English (and for a while, Russian) history. This visit to Germany and to this museum has inspired me to really delve into Germany history. It's an amazing place that has gone through so many changes...I don't want WW2 and the Holocaust to be their only legacy for my family.

After the museum, we rode around a little and then returned the bikes and headed back to our apartment. We had a ton of laundry to do, so we checked out and found a laundromat...or waschsalon, in German. We even enjoyed this, as we got to mix with locals in an everyday environment.

Once our laundry was washed, dried, folded, and put away, we headed to the train station. We had some dinner and 'eagerly' awaited our overnight train to Paris...will we get any sleep? Stay tuned.

  2. What?? You didn't pay an arm and a leg per pound like you did in London? (or was that Italy?) Well, I guess it's always cheaper when doing it yourself. Even with this you sure give me the bug to go back to Europe. Not like I needed any more motivating though haha. thanks, Cindy M
